UX Capstone
What is UX Capstone?
The UX Capstone Exhibit is a first-of-its-kind interactive multimedia showcase created by my Senior UX Design class. Designed Bradley’s annual FUSE showcase, the project introduces User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) Design to audiences of all ages, from small children to older adults, through hands-on interaction, physical items, and immersive digital experiences.
Rather than explaining UX through theory alone, the exhibit allows visitors to experience design in action using touchscreens, a supersized print display, custom physical items, and educational materials that connect design decisions to real-world outcomes.
The Goal
The goal of the UX Capstone Exhibit was to educate the general public on what UX/UI design is, why it matters, and how it shapes everyday experiences.
By combining digital interfaces, physical artifacts, and printed educational materials, the exhibit aimed to:
Make UX concepts approachable and easy to understand.
Show how design decisions impact usability, comfort, and efficiency.
Help visitors recognize UX in both digital products and physical objects.
Encourage critical thinking about the design of everyday interactions.
The Experience
The exhibit was structured as a multi-sensory learning environment that supported different learning styles—reading, interacting, observing, and hands-on exploration.
Touchscreen Experience
Visitors engaged with a touchscreen interface that allowed them to:
Learn what UX/UI design is and how it appears in everyday life.
Explore how UX is applied across industries such as healthcare, education, and retail.
View the students involved in the project and explore their individual portfolios.
The touchscreen acted as a central interactive hub within the exhibit.
My Role
I contributed to the design of the touchscreen UI experience, making sure it aligned with the exhibit’s educational goals and remained accessible to a broad audience.
My responsibilities included:
Designing UI screens in Figma for the touchscreen experience.
Creating original design elements, including buttons, icons, typography, and layout systems.
Supporting intuitive navigation for users of all ages and technical backgrounds.
Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team to create a cohesive exhibit experience.
Design Challenges
UX/UI design is often invisible when done well, making it difficult for non-designers to recognize its value. The challenge was to:
Clearly explain what UX/UI design is to a non-technical audience.
Engage users with varying levels of digital literacy, age, and ability.
Demonstrate UX principles across everyday objects and multiple industries.
Balance education and engagement in a physical exhibit setting.
Outcomes
The UX Capstone Exhibit successfully transformed UX/UI design from an abstract concept into a tangible, engaging, and educational experience.
By combining:
Interactive touchscreens.
Physical examples of poor UX.
Clear visual explanations of the design process.
Take-home educational materials.
The exhibit helped visitors understand not only what UX is, but why it matters and how it affects the objects and systems they interact with every day.
